Oh, can I get at least 600 thread count sheets then?

So, I swear – stuff like this only happens to me.

I’m in the process of acquiring all of the items for my new condo – no, I have not yet purchased a place, but I’ve started bargain hunting and searching far and wide for all of the perfect items that I’ll need once I move – and I’m conveniently storing them in an area of our basement.

I found these fantastic glasses to finish off my stemware/barware set – and in getting the best prices I’ve ordered from a variety of online sellers including Amazon, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc. So, two packages were out for delivery today from Amazon, and I’ve been tracking them all day.

Much to my surprise, one was “delivered” this morning at 10:30 to some office and was signed by someone I’ve never heard of. Thats odd considering I was having them shipped to my house. I called up UPS and asked what had happened to my package, and they apologized and said that it looked as though it was mistakenly delivered to the wrong address and that they would connect me to a representative who could help me investigate further. “Hello this is Te…” *click*. Fantastic, they hung up on me.

I call back once again, and ramble off my story to the next UPS agent/victim, and they once again transfer me to someone who can help me look into this matter further. I explain my story to the next person and they said there was nothing they could do as it was shipped from Amazon. Apparently, they claim that all shipping problems must be reported to Amazon for them to dispute and resolve the situation. …and we pass the buck.

Ok, I’ll bite – so I contact Amazon about my lost UPS package, and the fellow on the online chat apologizes profusely and offers to either credit me back for them or ship them out again at no charge with 2nd day shipping. Fantastic, as I still wanted these glasses and was worried about the condition of them having been misdelivered to someone else. At this point he tells me that I’ll be receiving an email about the new order shortly and begins to wrap up our conversation. Before clicking on “end chat”, I noticed an email had arrived and thought I’d have a peek.

An email from Amazon – that was quick, I’m thinking. I open it up and see an apology email that our chat had been disconnected (no it hadn’t), and that he was having difficulty canceling my order (why was he canceling it, I said I had wanted the stemware re-shipped), and that he was only able to remove the hangers from the order but not the bed (at this point I really don’t even know what to say). I immediately rush back to the chat window and ask what the heck I just received via email from him. He apologizes that he mistakenly emailed me the correspondence from another chat he had just completed, and that I’d receive the correct email shortly.

So, I’m either getting my stemware, a bed, or both sent via 2-day UPS.

Embracing the Cloud

I pre-ordered Beyonce’s latest album “4″ on iTunes and was pleasantly surprised at two things. First, I received an email that it was available to download at 11:30PM last night (woot!). Secondly, when I opened up my iTunes, it automatically downloaded from Apple’s iTunes store/cloud. I pulled out my iPhone and iPad and discovered that my new Beyonce CD had “automagically” popped up on those devices as well.

Now I’ve been a long time Apple iTunes user, but this new iCloud they are offering is impressive stuff. Unlike some services that offer streaming of your music stored in the cloud, Apple pushes the music to your devices so you aren’t utilizing unnecessary bandwidth nor relying on wi-fi or 3G connectivity wherever you want to listen to your music.

One of Apple’s goals for the new IOS 5, and incidentally the one I’m most excited about, is what they call “PC Free”. You no longer need a computer to own an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, and Apple iOS software updates will be available through Wi-Fi without needing to connect the device to your computer. So, at this point I’ve decided to fully embrace the cloud. As many of you may know, I have an iPod classic in my car to provide hours of listening pleasure. Well, I’ve just ordered a 64 GB iPod touch (the 3rd generation/last generation model) from the Apple refurbished section of their store and am looking forward to having all music that I purchase (and specifically impulse purchase) automatically be pushed to my iPod in the car without the need to remember to take the iPod out and sync up for my latest purchases. Its going to be a wonderful world and I can’t wait.
